Prentiss discovers new fanworm species

Five years ago, while snorkeling in the U.S. Virgin Islands , Nancy Prentiss spied and unfamiliar worm. After much research, collaboration and DNA testing, she’s been able to confirm Turbocavus secretus is indeed a new species of fanworm!

Prentiss teaches biology at the University of Maine, Farmington. She received her master’s degree in zoology from the University of Maine working under the guidance of Dr. Les Watling at the Darling Marine Center.
