Dr. Rhian Waller receives funding for deepsea coral research
Dr. Rhian Waller has received $413,562 from NOAA to study the deep-water corral communities in the Gulf of Maine which she describes as nothing less than “SPECTACULAR!” The project builds on a collaborative project started this summer aboard the R/V Connecticut, http://www.nefsc.noaa.gov/press_release/pr2014/scispot/ss1408/.
The Alaska Fisheries Science Center granted Waller $48,326 to continue studying the reproduction of Primnoa pacifica in the deep waters of the the Gulf of Alaska and in shallow fjord environments.
Waller also leads a large collaborative effort that received $897,504 from NOAA Ocean Explorations to study the deep-water coral and sponge communities in Glacier Bay National Park.
