DMC Director to speak in Orono and aboard the Nova Star
DMC director Heather Leslie will present a seminar titled “Got fish? Reflections on scientists’ roles in sustaining small-scale marine fisheries” on Monday, September 21. The talk is part of the Senator George J. Mitchell Center for Sustainability Solutions seminar series. It will be held at 3 p.m. in 107 Norman Smith Hall at the University of Maine in Orono
The following day she’ll board the ferry to Nova Scotia as part of the Nova Star’s ECO (Everyone Cares about the Ocean) Program. While crossing from Maine to Nova Scotia and back, passengers will engage with marine scientists to learn about fishing, shipping, wind turbines and recreation, while observing weather, currents, whales, dolphins, sea turtles, seabirds and fish.
