2023 Ocean Observing Internship
Ocean Observing 2023 summer internship opportunity at the Darling Marine Center
Undergraduate research opportunity to participate in observing coastal ocean ecosystem change in the Gulf of Maine as part of the NERACOOS Integrated Sentinel Monitoring Network (ISMN). In the Gulf of Marine, ISMN supports time-series sampling for planktonic biodiversity at two fixed stations located in the coastal ocean off the Darling Marine Center and Wilkinson Basin off the coast of New Hampshire.
Responsibilities include: (1) participation in semi-monthly to monthly day trips to each station to collect hydrographic data and plankton samples for assessment of bacterial, phytoplankton and zooplankton diversity, (2) analysis of samples for chlorophyll a concentration (3) microscopic image analysis of lipid content of planktonic copepods collected from the time series stations and (4) management of data files. The fellowship will start on June 5, 2023 and end on August 11, 2023.
